SOMA Studio Principal Designer Andrew Fee has over thirty-five years experience designing and building custom residential homes and interiors. A sculptural approach to building and materials combined with a contemporary design aesthetic that respects historical influences is the basis of his style.
Andrew's work is characterized by a global approach that respects the origins of modernism. His designs balance modern and traditional elements with ease. An experienced understanding of materials and attention to detail are his signature, allowing him to create contemporary residences and interiors layered with texture and enriched by craftsmanship.
Andrew's original training as a sculptor at York University, Toronto followed by studies with Reg Butler at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, UK formalized his aesthetic - one that integrates traditional techniques with 21st century innovation.
He began his career as a furniture designer and cabinetmaker in Toronto, following that with a decade of liturgical restoration in the US and Canada. Next came years of custom design-build and interior design experience on traditional and contemporary Toronto residential projects which give him a broad range of expertise in design and its practical implementation in building.
Andrew's current scope of work includes the development and Design_Build of Rural Modern residences, like the recently completed LONGHOUSE, the design and production of specialty millwork pieces at his company, BRONZINO Handmade and design work for a select group of residential clients.
"The quality of workmanship was far above what we're accustom to seeing, because they're not just designers, they're craftspeople … so there were a number of features not just beautifully designed but artisanally executed..."
